Want to see how many locations a company has and whether they’re active internationally? Look no further than the Filter Bar in the Company Finder!

Click on “Locations” to select from groups of 1 (single location), 2-10, 11-25, 26-50, and 50+ locations.

You can also select “Yes” or “No” for whether a company has an International Presence.

Using these, you can quickly find large multinationals or single locations, all ranked by their propensity to expand. Let’s look at a couple of examples:

A) Attracting International Companies

Let’s look for large, Japanese electronics companies with an international presence. Paring the helpful (but little known!) cluster of Communications Equipment and Services with the location of Japan will yield just over 300 companies. This is a great start, but we don’t know if they’re domestic or already internationally active. Select ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ in the “Int’l presence” filter drop-down,. In this case, if we look at companies that are already internationally active (Yes), you’ll see that about 80% of those companies are active internationally.

You can pretty safely assume that these companies are already familiar with international business practices and regulations - ideal targets for your outreach!

From there you can keep honing your searches by a presence/lack of one in a certain country or area by using our HAT query. Let us know what you find! :)

B) Analyzing your Area

Another way to use this feature would be to see the international companies active in your area. Let’s take a look at the area around Portland, Maine, where we have about 9,000 companies listed.

Flipping on the “Intl. Presence” switch, we can quickly whittle this down to around 700 international companies. Nice! You now have all the necessary information to get in touch with your local international business community.

C) Identifying Robust Domestic Companies

If you’re more interested in the domestic business activity of your local companies, you can combine the “Primary NAICS” feature with the “international location” feature to make sure you’re paying attention to the little guys. Here, we’ve started a search on Idaho that looks for local manufacturers without an international presence. The list is packed with G-Scores of 5, which is something to be proud of!
